Computer4School Project

Computer4Schools is an initiative of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) Abuja Chapter to reach out to rural schools in FCT and supply them with computers and other electronic devices. There is a growing need to bridge the digital divide between the rural schools and those in the cities. Access to these devices and other information is pretty challenging, with the world revolving around technology and technology contributing to social change and improved development, these schools need to be carried along so they can be a part of the national development.

Statistics have shown that most public schools in Nigeria do not have adequate IT equipment for practical sessions; hence they are not motivated to study Computer Science. As part of our core mandate of promoting the practice, teaching and learning of Information Technology in Nigeria, the NCS Abuja Chapter is planning a “Computer4School” project to collect used computer systems and peripherals from the public and private organiZations.

The computers are to be serviced and fixed by our team of volunteered IT Technicians and Engineers for upward donation in establishing Computer Laboratory in some selected Rural Primary and Secondary Schools in the FCT as part of the Chapter’s scheduled End of Year Event.

Interestingly, some of our members have equally volunteer to give their time to this initiative through donation of books and voluntarily reaching interested students.

To this end, we calling on everyone out there to donate used and obsolete computer systems and accessories including photocopy machines, printers and projectors for this project. Support the growth of Technology Education in our society, save the environment, help a child to be computer literate and give back to the society.
